ST begins with a nice visual: "There's something about you/ I want to rescue/ I don't even know you/ So what does that mean?"
It means.... you're a fucking creep. He never goes on to say what it is about her (or him) that he wants to rescue, or why it is that he feels a perfect stranger needs rescuing. The song goes on to talk about stars falling from the sky (a ludicrous concept to anyone with even the slightest degree of celestial knowledge), holding this person when the lights are turned out (another extremely creepy thing to do to someone you don't know), and other absurd statements like "You're looking for a hero but that's just my old tattoo."
Basically friends, this song is stupid, makes little to no sense, is inaccurate on numerous levels, transcends creepiness, and overall just sucks. Bon Jovi blows, and this song is just another example why. Tune in next time for my thoughts on JGC.

You have a good blog here, Tim. Don't simply "say" that this song "transcends creepiness", but HOW. WHY. If anything, my "critique" would be that I would like to see you discuss your opinions further. As it is here, you discuss one point for a few sentenences, offer a quotutation, explain it, and move on. In the end, however, I realize that this is merely a blog, not a research paper. All in all good work.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the content of the blog itself, I can't help but disagree with you and your sentiments regarding Bon Jovi and his song Superman Tonight. Clearly this song is about his daughter and this song is him coping with the fact that he can no longer be her "superman" anymore.
I look forward to your next entry,
Michael
